In 2001, War Child Canada put together the team that created, produced and directed the award-winning documentary Musicians in the War Zone. Artists Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace traveled to Iraq, David Usher of Moist visited refugee camps at the Thai-Burmese border, and The Rascalz went to Sierra Leone to meet with war affected children and youth.

Seen through the eyes of these Canadian recording artists at some of the world’s most violent flashpoints Musicians in the War Zone examines first hand the devastating effects of war on children and aims to create awareness among youth and inspire global action in support of human rights.

Musicians in the War Zone received a Bronze Medal at the 2001 New York Film and Television Festival, a Gold Ribbon Award for Public Service at the 2002 Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) Awards, and a Galaxy Award for Educational Programming from the Canadian Cable Television Association (CCTA). The documentary aired to record-breaking numbers on Canada’s premiere music broadcaster, CHUM Television's MuchMusic.

In addition, the online programming which accompanied the documentary - including live chats, daily web diaries from artists in the field, and a live webcast - attracted an additional estimated audience of half-a-million visitors.
